National Road March called in Buenos Aires

The Union of Road Workers and Related of the Argentine Republic (STVyARA), under the direction of Graciela Aleña, has scheduled a "National Road March" for next Monday at 10 a.m. in the Plaza de los Dos Congresos, which is headed to the Ministry of Deregulation and Transformation of the State. This is in defense of the National Directorate of Highways (DNV) against government measures that could jeopardize its existence and lead to worker layoffs.

A wide participation from the DNV sections of each province is expected in this demonstration, where it is planned to deliver a petition to both Deputies and Senators, as well as to the Minister of Deregulation and Transformation of the State, Federico Sturzenegger, who has been promoting measures that could lead to the disappearance of the agency in its current form.

The "National Road March" will then head towards the Ministry of Economy, at Hipólito Yrigoyen 250, to present a document to Minister Luis Caputo detailing the demands and the relevance of the entity for the development of the country. It will end at the Central House of the DNV, at Julio A. Roca and Av. Belgrano, at 1 p.m.

Graciela Aleña expressed her concern for the future of the DNV and stated: "It’s madness, they seek to dilute, shrink, and reduce the DNV which maintains thousands of kilometers of national roads, leaving not only without works that we no longer have but also without maintenance, a key action that right now, due to lack of budget, is putting the lives of millions of Argentines who travel them at risk."

The union leader also pointed out: "This struggle is not ours; it must be a banner of struggle for every Argentine, as everyone’s life will be at risk if the cuts we already know are planned are realized. The organization is already purposefully underfunded by this extreme right government, to generate the false argument that we are inefficient."

The event will receive support from labor organizations linked to the General Confederation of Labor (CGT) and the Argentine Confederation of Transport Workers (CATT), showing a united front in defense of the National Directorate of Highways.
